Frequently Asked Questions

If your club has a game on the upcoming Saturday…

On the Monday before the game, check the CARFU-RS website to see who your assigned referee is. The web site also has referee contact information include primary or preferred method of contact and possible alternate methods of contact. Before end of day Tuesday, using the contact information on the referee web site, contact your referee via his or her preferred method of contact.

The referee will need to know the kickoff time, where the match will be played, how to get there, and—if available—a cell phone number of someone who will be at the pitch. Other useful information the ref may need are jersey colors, known road construction, or parking issues.

If you have not confirmed the details with your referee by noon Wednesday, contact the referee assignor. He will assist in making contact or will assign another referee. “Confirmed” means actually making contact, not simply sending an email or leaving a voicemail and assuming they got the message. If you are unable to reach either your assigned referee or the referee assignor, contact the CARFU Referee Society President.

If you have not confirmed with your referee or contacted the referee assignor by end of day Wednesday, it is likely that referee will be assigned to another match.  Contact the referee assignor as soon as possible to discuss the situation. Calling the referee assignor the Friday night before or worse, the morning of the match, to get the name of your referee is exceptionally bad form!

If your club has a midweek game…

By Friday the week before, check the CARFU-RS website to see who your assigned referee is, and follow the procedure for a Saturday game, making sure you contact the assigned referee at least 72 hours prior to the game, via their preferred method of contact. As above, be sure to give all of the pertinent information about the match to the referee.

If you have not confirmed the details with your referee by noon Monday, contact the referee assignment officer. He will assist in making contact or will assign another referee. “Confirmed” means actually making contact, not simply sending an email or leaving a voicemail and assuming they got the message. If you are unable to reach either your assigned referee or the referee assignor, contact the CARFU Referee Society President. If you have not confirmed with your referee or contacted the referee assignor by end of day Tuesday, it is likely that referee will be assigned to another match.

If your game is cancelled…

If your game is cancelled, inform the assignment officer as soon as you find out. If a match has been cancelled less than 24 hours before kickoff, your club may still be charged a full match fee at the Referee Society’s sole discretion. If a referee arrives for a scheduled match and that match has been cancelled, the requesting club will be charged the full match fee.

 Tournaments

The tournament organizer must provide the referees with a covered area which is solely for referee use, ice, water, and sports drinks. If the tournament runs a full day, the organizer must provide the referees with lunch.
